Here it is the new year and much to our surprise we have no snow and not to bad of temp.
Today Jer and I went up to porcupine Dam and found it is still not frozen over about half of the lake is still open.
I just wanted everyone to know that this last year really hasn't been to bad of a year. I got to go to Canada hunting. Spent time with good friends, family, and had the ability to work and work to do.
To day I going to prune the apple trees around the house and maybe the raspberry bushes.
We have apple cider and if any one would like some just come and visit.
I will try and post a couple of pictures that didn't show up last time

It seems very strange to post here again.
This was a great way to keep in touch when we were gone from home and now we are here it seem there is no need to post. I am not sure that anybody will read this but I would like to post a couple of pictures of a trip I did going to Canada this last month.
This lake is where I got tossed from the boat we were hunting from and I will just tell you it was cold with water pouring into my chest waders and being pulled along like a fishing lure.

Last weekend was the first time that I have been on the water in two years. I went with a friend of mine who like's to hunt water fowl even more than I do. He has a jet boat that can run the snake river's rapids while going up stream against heavy current.
The first day was a warm thirty degrees in the afternoon that made life very nice for us to relax and enjoy the outdoors. While the ride up the river, well the ride down too, was for me kind of scary cause I was not in control of the boat nor am I an expert river runner. Good thing I wasn't in control I would have sunk us for sure.
My buddy Roger is a great friend and fun to be with. He kept calling me to come hunting with him even when he knew that I would more than likely turn him down cause of the work load I had at the time. Thanks Roger for all your calling.
We had a great time shot a few ducks, a couple of shots at geese, and just a wonderful time being out of doors.

Well now it is January 2011 what a difference a year makes. Last year in Silver City. This year in Idaho, Wyoming, and Utah working.
Silvers winter was a week of snow and some cold, this year we have had at least two feet of snow and below zero temps. I like Silver City. I also like the fact that we have had two new granddaughters born to us and they are both healthy and both moms are doing well. We have gotten to see brothers, sisters, sons, and daughters so the trade off has been worth it.

Work had been crazy for the last four months and now we have finished all the things we had going and wondering what we will be doing till spring breaks.

We had opened our home to a young man from the Silver City Area and he stayed with us for a couple of months before moving on.

This weekend I am going to go hunting for the first time in over two years and feel just a little nerves and yet excited about doing so again. I like to talk with the waterfowl ya know.

We have also had friends get sealed in the temple, go on mission's, and join the LDS church so all in all it has been a good year

Well here it is five weeks since we have left Silver City. It has seemed like we had stepped sideways in time then stepped back in. Yet so many things had changed. Sherry's mom had died, my mom had gotten older, many of the local kids had started driving, my old nursery class had gone on to primary and didn't even remember me.
While we had been gone we had had the opportunity to grow spiritually, by just the need to learn what we needed to teach we gained greater insights to ourselves, religion , each other, and the desire to help others. We found so many good people of all walks of life, and religions that we have felt so blessed with the chance we had to serve a mission.
Our children grew so much, they took care of each other spent time together, and made it a point to include each other their lives.
We so much feel such a deep emotion of gratefulness for the love our children showed for us by taking care of the house, mow the lawn and just wanting to spend a little time at "home" to perhaps feel of our spirits.
Our kids, you children, told us that it wasn't so fun to come to Avon cause we weren't there, I have thought how that's kind of like when we die, the House was there, the yard, our "things" but the heart wasn't there, the spirit, while we came home things have changed. We have changed. I hope that in all of our changing as each of us grow older that the change's are for the good. That we would grow kinder, love each other more, have less time to do useless things, more time to serve, to be wise as a serpent and harmless as a dove.

take a hike

One can often find many sorts of new places if we are just willing to get lost,(thinking we are not lost), many new fun thing's like how to climb out of a narrow almost box canyon, finding plant life of many sorts, and by looking at scat, know we are not alone on the mountain.
Of course we have walked may time around our yard and taken great care not to mess with those sharp needled plant life, with the wet weather this last winter we were waiting for the cactus to bring forth their flowers, I have seen the desert bloom before and wanted Sis Lowery to experience this.
She had also wanted me to see the Century plants that she had seen last year on a hike. My idea was less taxing and not likely to get us hurt.
Our yard is full of "Paddle " cactus and have yellow blooms, we have a couple of small round cactus that have a reddish blossom, while the century plants have large stems, big white blossom's are are very lovely, they were not so easy to get to.
Monday we went to a camp ground that had a hiking trail which we started up, so far so good.
Part way up my guide gave instructions that we were on the wrong path and needed to go over land where no man, or women had ever traveled before.
It was great we found a multitude of different canyons with steep sides, loose rocks, and debris in the bottom. Well never let it be said we would have made good pioneers cause we just went ahead and said have feet will travel.
We climbed and climbed knowing just around the bend and up that litttttle rise would be the top. Finally getting to the top we discovered that Sis Lowery had picked the only canyon that had an out let on top that we could have climbed. At least we came to that conclusion based on the fact we were not going back down that way nor try any of the other canyon's.
The view from the top would have been just as nice if we would have followed, yes you guessed it, the trail that we were on earlier. We are such intrepid explorer's.
It is fun to know that we can still get around in the mountain's without calling search and rescue.

road trips

Road trips often start around our house as unplanned, where are we going affairs, with many a surprise along the way. Last Saturday was one of those times. We had been wanting to go to the large array, where the movie "contact" took place, to see the what was there. We drove four hundred miles which is half way home and saw the large dish's while they were impressive and the visitor center informative we found much more along the way.
There is a small town called Reserve New Mexico that sits on the road to the VLA. and we arrived around Noon and of course wanted to eat. This place had two cafe's and as the saying goes the choice made all the difference in the world. We found the best Hamburger in the world a swiss Mushroom 1/2lb Hickory Smoked toasted bun that was good enough to go back for dinner to our delight.
We have been invited to go fishing a few times here, while we didn't take anybody up on the invite we had been to the "lakes" that everyone went to. While not to make lite of the water they have here those wet area's they were not "lakes" as known to the fishing world. We did in our journey a lake that was long enough and wide enough to be counted as a lake that would bring joy to any ones heart.
What surprise's we have had mountains, desert flowers, "lakes" , Cholla cactus, Yucca's and their flower's, but most of all have been the people. Those that we have met walking early morning at the track, the students and faculty at the campus during the hot dogs and More each Thursday
We will be missing these things.

This last winter has been a very wet one with snow, rain, snow, rain, and always wind. It was kind of miserable for us northern Utah folks that have turned Southern New Mexico folks at least for another month.
The great thing about all the moisture is the fact that the world blooms the cactus, the Yucca's, and all kinds of desert flowers find the effort of making blossoms worth while. The trouble is the deer also like the flowers as they come up. We had forty blossoms growing on a yucca type plant though we don't know for sure what it is. We were so excited to be seeing new things, and so upset that the deer would eat them just before they would bloom, I took to chasing them around the yard, I bet that looked wild from the neighbors back yard as the deer would just run around me. Oh for a paint ball gun.
We have had our last hot dogs, and more for the college, I think we have done almost eight hundred pounds of dutch oven potato's. I think I know how to cook them how. I did enjoy the association of the different churches, the college people, and the students, that came.
We got the chance to serve at the NEW temple in Gila Valley. I have heard that 91,000 people went through on tour's that is just a wild amount considering how out of the way this place is.
This Sunday the temple will be dedicated.
The chicken is cooking and the aroma is getting serious so I better go and check. See ya'll next month.

Well It seems that I take pictures and when I look at them they seem so boring as we have taken pictures of these things before, except for the people and family that come to visit. I have started to take video's now even though the eye piece broke and we just use the view finder. We will make some dvd's when we get home.
This last week angie came to visit, 13 hours of driving both ways and only a day and a half here.
Course the wind would kick up and the Friday before the interstate was closed down because of blowing dust clouds.
We have had some wonderful weather otherwise, with the trees blooming and the temp being just right.
Some fun things are coming up like Tombstone Sat. The tour de Gilia happens at the end of the month, last week was the dutch oven cook off in Glenwood, humming birds should be here soon and I am not going to grow a garden, I'm tired of giving the squirrels a ride and having them beat me back to eat a tomato before I can.
we are still going to the track to work out Sis Lowery gets in three laps almost four running while I just walk, course I walk almost as fast some people, well sis Lowery run's.

Time is? Time is the memories that we make. For the young time drags on for the older time fly's by. Looking ahead when we were young it seemed that Thanksgiving, Christmas, Valentines Day, Summer Vacation would never come. As we neared the middle part of our lives. It was Opening Day of what ever, kids graduation, their marriage, the arrival of grandkids, and all the things we were excited about. Then time came we had to say goodbye to friends, relatives, and those that we hold most dear. Time contracts as we review those memories that we have and wonder where did the time go, for we were only young yesterday.
Take time, Make memories, for the times we sit by the camp fire and share our "time" with others, for the memories will fade and soon be forgotten.

Life in the fast lane

Silver City is built for the fast life morning traffic lasts for a couple hours, with very polite drivers, and very seldom do we hear a car honk their horn. Noon comes with lots of people out getting lunch and doing some shopping. while the afternoon creates most of the congestion around five to six pm. after that travel is very easy and by eight pm most everyone is home. It is my kind of place.
When we have to go on the interstate I get reminded the speed limit is above forty five so get going!
Last Sat. we had the opportunity to go to the Snowflake Temple. It is a beautiful building and has a very special spirit about it. It is located on a hill with a golf course right next to it. The town of Snowflake is I think about 6000 feet in elevation. The High desert it is, and with all the snow and rain we have received we are being told that the wild flowers and cactus will be in full bloom this spring. We are looking forward to that.
We were grateful for all the kind letters and thoughts people write to us and we are looking forward to seeing you all soon.

almost a year

Here it is Jan. of 2010 what a ride it has been. We have been here almost a year and we have had an interesting time. We have seen older students leave and new ones come, we have some getting married and some dating. Activities are interesting, from camping in a place so dark you can see tomorrow coming two hours before time.
Learning to cook here, or eat here has been fun and a challenge. I think we have gotten a good dutch oven potato dish down, the kids at the college seem to like them. The peppers and chili's are a different story, red or green chili, mexibell peppers, green, red, orange bell peppers, and a host of others I don't know how to spell. Bean's, rice and bean's, true corn bread, brisket of beef, and some make real pecan pie just like my grandma did.
Oh and the fresh home made salsa, hang on to your hat if your from the north with those bland taste buds, it is a real kick. Learning what to have served on the side and what you can take in full dose is a trick when I don't even know what the menu list on it.
Learning that rock squirrel's love tomato's, deer will leave your corn alone, and potato's don't grow well here, chili's do.
We have meet some of the most wonderful people here, people on the track where we walk, in the stores, streets, college suppers, at church, and on hikes in the mountains.
We would have missed it all if we wouldn't have walked out the door with a faith that it could be done.
We have truly been blessed. We have love all the letter's we have received, phone calls, and visit's by family.
We will be home in a minute.

Here it is 2010. We have been gone eleven months now and only seven more to go it hardly seems like it has been that long. Marsha and Brian came down for Christmas hopping to have some warmer weather, It snowed the Tuesday before and was not warm while they were here. Today it is going to the forty's and so far a lite wind.
Yesterday we went exploring and took a dirt road just out of town to the west and headed up the mountain. Wow you would not believe the houses that were up there. It is kind of like that in this area one only knows that there are house's over the hill by the mail box's that are out by the road.
We did have fun with Marsha and Brian taking them to the old down town area and a taste of the local ambiance, art stores, antique shops, door fronts, and the inhabitants of the down town area. We also got to show them the deer that have been around the yard all year. The deer came with in a few feet of the back door and browsed on some of the bushes that were there. I don't mind that as long as they leave the garden alone in the summer.
It was great to talk to so many of you over the Christmas holidays and to receive so many cards and letters. We missed each of you but know this is where we should be for the time being.
We talked to Josh and it was great to hear his voice he will be home soon, if we could just find out the date of his release.

Well we just got the computer back thanks to Gavin taking the time to making it work again. Thanks Sara and Cordell for taking it home and to our student Kim for bringing it back.
Last Sat. Mom and I got the chance to see our niece Kim we haven't seen her for ten years or so.
We got to go to the white sands national monument, those sands are very white. Mom and I made sand angles they looked ok but not quite like snow angles.
We have also been to Los Cruces, El Paso, White Sands, and a few places around here over the last month.
We have had a drop of snow, cold, it did get down to twenty one night, most of the days have been very nice, just seems like a late fall day, we love it.
The branch has grown alittle with a RM. but we will be losing some as they are getting ready to go on a mission and others, will be going to other colleges next Jan. We take it as it comes and enjoy the kids when they are here.
I hardly know what to write as one day seems to melt into another any more. Here some pictures, otherwise.

Well it is Oct. now we have some of the leaves changing the weather is turning football is being played, clouds have been red, life is great.
We harvested our garden this last week. One plastic bag of potato's, some peppers, squash, tomato's, onion, and carrots. Won't grow underground stuff it doesn't grow and what does has lots of bugs.
We have lots of cactus on the place so I decided to just cut it down and skin it. it's pretty dangerous and easy to stalk except when the wind is blowing the limps start to jump around and I have to be quick to keep from getting stuck, lot's of fun though.
I got to talk to a man yesterday that had at the age of sixteen joined the army to fight in WW II he had a lot of good stories to tell of how they had to melt out the enemy as they were in the great white north. He was from Kansas I think I had been through his town when we used to visit my grandparents in KC MO. He also fought in the Korean conflict said it was colder there than Alaska I don't know.
As I got ready to leave he looked at me and said he was Mormon too joined in 58 hadn't been active for along time. I asked him if he would like some one to stop by and talk about that and he said yes he would.
Ya never know who, or where you might meet someone so it is best to be good and not have to say your sorry for not being good.

Two more days and it will be Oct. It is hard to believe that this is going by so quick. The weather is feeling like fall and the temp has dropped some but it is not cold it is barely cool in the mornings when we walk.
Sis Lowery is running most of two miles how and I can walk again I am doing two to two and a quarter in thirty to thirty five min. so I think that is pretty good for someone as old as we are.
We went to a state park Sat. It is a place that would be good in the winter but a very hot one any other time. the formations are made from old lava flows the same that made the copper deposits and places like the cat walk that I pictured here before.
we also went to a town celebration it was small but alot of people were there.
We have been low on people at church though we have had many come just at different day's.
we went to the college's football game they lost to a team from Colorado it was kind of fun to see a game live maybe we can get to the high school game. More people attend them than any others I can see why.
Also this old fort had a celebration it would have been a great place to have a Dutch Oven contest maybe we can get one going for next year.

September the 20th 36 years and one

Can anyone remember what was going on a year ago today? I guess maybe not. Thirty six years ago it was a wild and windy day for Sis Lowery and I. It is hard to believe that we have been married for thirty six years. I can still remember being thirty six and all those young kids we had.
I wish I had some of the pictures from that time I would post them and then you would all make rude comments about how graceful we had aged.
It is great that we get to share this date with Lesa and Gavin and wish them happy anniversary and next year we can celebrate together along with the rest of the family.
The weather here is really crazy with the rains turning everthing green it seems just like spring with the cooler temps. The deer are still in the velvet and we have four bucks on the property some time each day. We had a deer roast that we cooked for the Elders last Friday along with potato's and corn bread and home made gravy it was pretty good even Sis Lowery liked it.
We are happy and things are going well.

well it has almost been a month. We had a melt down with the computor last month and did a factory restore. I almost deceided not to even post another blog as that experenince was very tramatic for me. We can hardly believe that another month has gone by and today is the openning of dove season up home. Some of the archery hunts have openned up down here and look what I found in the back yard. this buck was with two others and they hardly cared if we were there or not.

Life has been fine our garden has been producing alot of tomato's and even more squrriels. I think next year we will do the upside down tomato's so the wild life doesn't get it.

Alot of the memebers have returned to the out of town schools, we are trying to help incourage some of the members here who haven't been out to stop by and visit so they might feel like they can attend church and activities with us.

We have done another peach cobbler evening with one of the wards here and one with the college so I can still even after one month layoff I remembered how.

Yesterday evening we had quite a outdoor show. There were different storm cells across the sky with alot of lighting. Some rain would fall and when it did it was very heavy but one could go a couple of blocks and it be bone dry. One of the members own a ranch to the south of town and as we watched the lighting we realized that there was some also we texted them they said that the fire was on their ranch and they were fighting it. The crew of fire fighters that were up the canyon mopping up a fire there came down and a couple of different volunteer deptments came to help fight the fire when another storm cell came by and put the fire out I am not sure how much burned but it is very dry here and rain is really needed.
We are grateful to be here and are glad that we have had this opportunity to serve. I know it's because so many of you have given your support and our children have taken on so much of the responsiblities that were ours.

July is gone

We have had a great time this month. We have had three activities with the YSA this month one camping, one temple, oh we are going to the cat walk tomorrow which is August not July. I had fun
trapping the rodents of the area. Cutting down jumping cactus to carve into music batons finding I don't like the needles from them stuck in my paw, had more variety in the humming birds that came to the feeder, trapped more rodents, saw deer just outside the fence wondering how the corn would taste, fawns, trapped more rodents, picked squash, ate some cheery tomatoes , waiting for the large tomatoes, had a strawberry, watched lighting, dodged waterfalls from the sky,almost burn out new breaks coming down a steep canyon, saw an old building come down on campus and another one start up, had students graduate, new students come, friendships start between, gasp, young men and young women, finished a mission Prep class, an institute class, and have two of the members, leave on mission's. Well in August they will. Fixed some electrical problem's for a couple of members cooked dutch oven meals, fixed rusted dutch ovens, read books, listened to cd's teaching us how to teach, went to a twenty fourth of July celebration in Demming and that donesn't include all that Mom has done.

Squirrel's, roads, and fun

Tomorrow is the twenty fourth we should be in the monsoon season we get lots of clouds and thunder and little rain. We did get a couple of showers and things started to flood so I don't know just what would it would be like with a couple of hours of rain.
I have been having fun trapping critters in the garden. we have as of today six squirrel, mice, one kangaroo rat, bugs, and we could catch rabbits if we opened the gate. The deer have yet to jump the fence and eat the corn.
We went to Mongollon Wednesday cause the cleaners came around one made us leave. Mongollon Pronounced " Mogeeon" it is an old mining town in a narrow canyon a baseball could be thrown from one house to the other with no trouble at all. It is also at the bottom of a steep climb in and out being mostly a one lane road and when it rains it cause's rock slides on the road , we almost burned out our brakes coming out, but finally the lower gears were engaged the speed limit was fifteen mph. and that was fast.
We have been live trapping and yesterday we had hauled that squirrel out of town. when we let him go he took off running not just to the trees, or the next set of trees, not even just to the dry creek bed which was a block away, but to our knowledge he is still running, man did we laugh. Here he had been living off the lowery garden and next he was in the hot dessert wild's. Too fun.

Well Sara sent us our new ac adapter so we could use the computer again thank you Sara.
We have had some great times. On the fourth we cooked dutch oven for the Stake at their booth we cooked around 16-18 pots of peach cobbler I how can say I know how to cook peach cobbler.
Our garden is looking good and if the squirrels would leave the tomatoes alone along with the rest we would be eating ripe tomatoes. Last Friday and Sat. we were on a campout with the branch which was alot of fun. Sis Lowery and I forgot the peaches, the cheese and something else but I forget. Oh it was the runny stuff for pancakes. One of the kids locked their keys in the car it was only a three hour drive to get a spare set.
We have had hot day and some real stormy one I like the stormy ones best. There are a couple of forrest fires burning, I don't know how this whole place doesn't burn.
Fourth fire works were pretty good. The neighborhood ones were the best compaired to the citys. I would be worried about setting the world on fire but these people aren't.
Sat. we got home and after unloading the car the front tire went flat. We went to get a tire ended up with two, new brakes, and two new front axles. Glad we didn't run out of gas.
We also have a new humming bird called a ruffus it is a bright yellow, orange color and runs off the other birds. We are also walking two miles a day on the track. Sherry gets another half mile in cause she runs some. My knee is still not up to running but it is getting better.

surpise

We had a good rain storm yesterday for twenty minutes or so but it came down hard and water started running everwhere can't wait till the rainy season.
We did have a bit of a surprise when we got to the institute today a tarantula was on the wall by the door and boy did mom jump when she saw it.
I have been waiting all week to spray weeds and held off cause the forcast was for rain. Well yesterday I did spray and three hours later it was pouring. I don't think anything died darn it.
As you can see we are also having the desert bloom pretty but don't get to close when trying to smell it. besides they mostly stink.

Saturday we went for a drive to Arizona to Thatcher where they are building the new Temple I guess the place is really Central we drove over the burrow mountains with very winding slow turns and came back on the road to Lordsburg which was alot faster. It was a nice drive but hot and we were glad to get back to Silver City.
Not much else to report on this week.
The wooden building I think is a Stake house the other I think is the temple but I am not sure . Jacobsen is the general and we have done a few jobs with them. the sign said visitors welcome but the gate said stay out I would have gone in if I knew the forman.

wedding

Well it is a short time we got to be home. It seems surreal to be back in Avon for a so short of time with the sky being gray and rain falling. Everthing was so green and very cool must of been in the forty's. We even started a fire in the wood stove and turned on the furnace one morning.
We had a great time seeing friends, relatives, and our kids. It was fun to see Sara and Cordell get married. I think you will agree.
We are glad to be back to Silver City for now it does seem like home and where we should be and we would like to have all you here with us then this would be perfect.

End of May.
Mom and I went for a ride last Sat. we traveled from Silver City up the Membres valley to the Junction with the road to the cliff dwellings. We stopped at Lake Roberts it is a small lake with bass and trout the water has lots of weeds and looks a lot like mud Lake. there were alot of people fishing. a funny thing happened while we were there a couple from El Paso came with a small boat and new trailer. They had been getting their boat to the lake in the back of the truck. Two weeks ago they bought a trailer. well after backing in the wife was holding on to the rope and the husband started to pull the trailer out so far so good except you have to get the boat all the way off the trailer if you want to keep the boat in the water. Luckly someone stopped the husband before it got too far down the road. I usally just sank the boat instead.
We stopped for lunch which turnout to be breakfast instead at a place that had humming birds all over the place. It looked just like home. we didn't take one picture at the restraunt.
We also have more tomatoes growning we also have a bunny that now knows where everything in the garden is.

Blues Festival

Here it is the last of May and again Silver City is having another event. The Blues Festival has quite the following with bikers, hippies, (old ones), young and old a like taking part of the Friday through Sunday activities. A large gathering took place each day and the music was pretty good. Sis Lowery said she could listen to it better than Nate King Cole. Well it was pretty good.
WE also went for a ride Sat out to a place called the City of the Rocks which is alot smaller than the one in Idaho. We also went on around to a valley called the Minbres Valley and it had green trees, cotton woods, Pine, and Juniper the stream didn't have much water but the under ground had to be very shallow to have as much greenery as was there.
We took a couple of shots of the Harleys , Rocks, and the closed mine it is interesting what the mind looks like.
Our garden is still coming along with potatos growning and the tomatos having blooms I hope we get some fruit soon.
We also had some good T-stroms and the water gets runing quick down the streets. Cant wait till the Monsoon season.

Thought I would show a little of our Garden. We have planted a couple of times cause the birds think we are providing a meal for them. It wouldn't be so bad but they only pull out the shoot nibble on it and not even eat the seed.
WE have learned that plants that are started don't get eaten at least by the birds I think maybe the bunnies and deer will take care of that latter.
It gives me something to do at six am and then at night to see how everthing is going.
Really I don't get up till 6:15.
We are having a great week. the College is done today. The High school is done Sunday. The new Kids are coming on Sunday and we will have a ball.
We had transfers Wed. and Lost Elder Christensen and got Elder Jones. What fun we have.

Yesterday being Sat. our P-day we went to the races all day plus shopping and baking getting ready for Sunday as we have invited all the graduating seniors from the three wards and two branches to attend today this being Sunday.
Yesterday we watched the different races from different places around the course and this by far is the best for spectators to see more than a small glimps of the race. We don't know who won Levi and Lance were up towards the front when on the second to last lap there was a wreck on the second turn one of the Mellow Yellow Johnny riders went down with a group of others and Armstrong about stopped on stop of the hill by us to see what had happened then on the last lap it happened again on the same spot with one rider really getting his knee hurt when we saw it it had already turned black and blue and had alot of blood still on the leg. He did get up and was able to walk. I don't remember which team he was riding for he was dressed in green.

Yesterday was fun watching the racers come by an while I waited I took some of these humming birds. Today is the time trials tomorrow the closed loop. I think I posted the first pictures of Wed. race here on this blog ok more like of Armstrong anyway we are having fun here at the Institute we would like more the young adults to catch on fire here but one thing at a time I know the Lord is doing his part the rest of us need to do ours.

Second day of race

Hey what fun. Levi Leipheimer didn't take first yesterday he is the guy on the far side of the three. Lance took eighth 1:40 behind first. I also got my picture on the front page the news paper took a picture of Armstrong signing the sametime I was and they published the picture. I would sent or post if I could figure how to scan one into the the comp. maybe that isn't legaly we do have a copy.
Today the race went by our house and we got some good pictures well it was fun taking them.
we were up hill from our house about a half a mile thinking that they wouldn't be traveling so fast.
They were still flying. It has been exciting to see them and be a part of this experence. We still were almost on time to the Institute only five minutes late.
Tomorrow is the time trials and we probley won't see any of that. Sat. is the one mile laps and we will be there for that.
Mom thinks this is just to fun.
I set a second humming bird feeder down at the Institute it sat there for two days before the birds found it.

Last week it was the Great Race for the college and this week it is the Tour of Gila bike race it is a five day event the first race goes up 180 to mogollon with the last four miles climbing 2100 hundred feet. These bikers are doing that race today. Tomorrow the race goes right in front of our house. and then along way around, up, down the mountains about 100 miles. one decent usually has some brutal crash's they say. The road is narrow and curvy switch backs.
Here is a picture of Lance Armstrong yes he is racing with a group he put together the kid in the middle is an up and coming racer.
Mom wants to ride next year,( not kidding), but she said it will be in the car.

Humming birds, great races, bicycle races, YSA events, Zone Conference meetings, I guess we can keep some what busy. Plus we still have Institute classes, and Branch activities on the weekend the time fly's by pretty fast. This next weekend the Gila Bike race takes place it is a four day event with them riding three long races and one in town speed race, it will be going by our front door for two of those races. Remember this place is up then down or down then us except if you go south then it is just hot.
We had one Elder transfer out last week so we only have two here now. Elder Miller is teaching a sign language class and does very well.
It is getting warm up to the 90 in Deming just 50 miles to the south of us but alot lower in altitude we have been sleeping with the windows open and enjoy the cool breeze at night.
We enjoy the students here and they are very faithful in their callings. well as much as the rest of us. They are good people and a joy to be around. Many of the kids that normaly come home for the summer won't be this year cause there is no work here for them to do and they are staying where there is work.
WE also went to El Paso Tx looked around Called Rick Jr. and talked to him. Course he was at work and couldn't see us but still we were within a mile of where he was at.

Hey folks how is everybody doing?
Hope you all had a happy Easter.
We had a good turn out at the branch and everyone stayed for the luncheon afterwards.
Then we had a great FHE that night. We showed the Stone Cutter for the lesson and played Chicken foot Dominios we played for who had to wash dishes and yes Mom won and everybody laughed since she was already doing them.
When we got home from our walk to day we had the Road Runner in our yard and wow they are quick no wonder wiley coyote couldn't catch him.
We are having a good time the kids are starting to stop in most days and talk.

We Love being here and it is a wonderful place to be. We do have our up and down times just like Silver City roads go up and down. We have started a garden with peas and onion outside and tomatoes growing in the back room.

It has been very windy the last few day's with Saturday being the only none windy day.
We went to a Dutch oven cook off at Glennwood Saturday it was alot of fun it was alot more laid back than the ones around Utah. I don't know who or what dishes won but it was fun to see people cooking one was even roasting a turkey in the ultimate roaster.
We also went to a place called the cat walk it was a small ore car rail from the mining town to the smelter the town was called mongollon. It is a cool place has water, is prone to flash floods and in the shade it was down right cool.
We also saw a herd of bucks they were by the road and standing still we thought at first they were dumb deer and turned around to look when we stopped they took off to funny.

well all you March Babies Happy Birthday
The time has gone by so fast and here it is one year older and still happy as a lark
Things have been going good here we have a couple of new students and we are having fun trying to find more kids. We have had one Dutch dinner taters and spotted owl oh I mean chicken.
The kids are starting to stop by more and having lunch and dinner or just to talk all of it has been good. We had a birthday party for one of the girls today and about ten kids have shown up for five hours. it is great.
Blaine, Judy, and Jolene stopped by which made Sherry home sick she would have hitched a ride if they would have had room JK It was really great to see them.
It can be done so come on down.

Hi we have been busy this week with a couple of classes a dinner on Thursday and class then
Sat a trip to the Temple up in Albuquerque four and a half hours up then the same coming back and we didn't even hit a rabbit pretty lucky I'd say.
There is a very divers topography here in NM and alot of fun to see it all. I like the desert as long as I don't have to hike somewhere for survival. We crossed the Rio Grande and there were even some bird refuges along the way and a couple of reservoirs.
Albuquerque is a large place and the traffic for a Sat afternoon was fast an crazy after living here where they roll up the streets about nine pm. of course we like it that way.
We started to clean up the out side of the Institute today raking leaves and what not. We even started a compost pile for the leaves don't know what we will do with it but the stake wants everybody to grow a garden this year we are going to try some around out house where there is a fenced in yard. We should plant peas carrots and onions how. I will post some pictures later this year maybe.
our high speed internet is down right now and we are tapping into the college's right now but it does not work that well. so no pictures for awhile.

Well here it is one month later and we get two days of storm. It was nice to have some rain yesterday and today along with the wind. The last few days had smelt like rain with the morning having the strongest smells of water.
I saw a humming bird feeder out today, I have yet to see one but I am ready to set mine out at the first hint of activity.
We went to the Gila Cliff Dwelling's Friday as school was out and we don't have alot of activity yet on Fridays
We also got a couch that turned into a bed so we are using it for a bed instead of the air bed and then we went to the Habitat for Humanity and bought a couch we will donate it back when we leave.
There are alot of people here that want to do good for others and in their own way are doing alot of good. Most all of the rangers at the cliff dwellings were volunteers I think it is wonderful that America has so many people that give time money and effort to public.

Hey it's the Fifty of march and we have broken cloud cover wow. We went to Las Cruces yesterday it was 85 and every hot to us had to turn on the air what a kick. and it's March.
We got to speak to the mission pres yesterday and would you believe it I went to school with him and his wife at SHS He is a year younger Wes Walker His brother is Brad and His wife is Kris Weight from Springville. Isn't that funny. As soon as I said we went to school together he about fell over.
It is funny how small the world real is. We had a four point buck in the drive way two days ago and six does and fawns yesterday this has been quite the wildlife preserve on our place.
Lots of Doves and Quial but no geese unless We go to Roswell where they are all from outerspace ha ha.
We went over Emery pass It has a narrow winding road mostly up then dooown. What a great place.

March is a lamb

Here it is the second of march with clear warm skies and a gentle breeze if we had water we would think we were in the Islands.
Last Sat. we looked for kites to fly cause we had some good stiff air currents but either they were too much money or just little kids kites.
Uncle Blaine and Aunt Judy said they would bring a couple of Dutch Ovens down to us as they are coming this way in the middle of March not many cook with ovens here and they cost so much here. We are looking forward to cooking for the Institute and the branch.
This morning we saw five deer on our walk two were less than 30 yards away. Yesterday we jumped two flocks of quail on the back part of the property it is alot of fun.
The locals say that we really need to have some storms and get some water but it is hard to feel bad with us being use to the northern cold winters.

It's Tuesday and the weather is warm around 65 today it was 45 at 7 am we are grateful for the nice temperatures. We received a very nice gift yesterday evening we got a table Mom took a picture of me since all the others had been of her this is after our walk this morning. We have cleaned both sides of the road for twenty minutes each way whatever that works out to in miles with all the stopping to pickup the trash. It is good exercise for us.
We have still seen deer in the yard and more birds are starting to turn up. The branch Pres. said the fruit trees are starting to bud which is not good as a frost comes in late March or April.
We have enjoyed the Branch and the things we have gotten to do with them. At the campout the wind blew hard enough that it all but lifted the tent we were in off the ground most of the kids and some of the leaders thought it was cold but really it wasn't too bad low thirty's and warm fifty.

I guess the kids didn't find it funny that they made me strong I just love them all.
We have had fun walking almost every morning and started to clean up along the road side we carry a couple of bags one just for trash and one for recycle and we have filled up both bags everyday so far.
We also get to wave at alot of people everyday some we are getting to recognize and they seem to be happy to wave back. The people here seem to be very friendly and take pride in their area.
We have been going to the old part of town and walking through some of the Antique stores most of it looks geared to the tourist trade, We did find a gelato shop in historic down town pretty good treat. We tried a vanilla with chocolate and a Rasberry flavor. Next time it will be peach. We are going camping tonight with the branch and are so thankful that the temperature has warmed up to almost 60 and the night to 30 so we think we can survive it.

last night the wind blew and I fully expected to have a big storm today well it sure is nice and warm again high clouds but the sun is seeing the ground.
This week is the first week that the miners won't have any paid checks and many of the people here are getting very worried. We had a Adult Inst. class today and met some very wonderful people one young lady and served a mission in Zimbabwe in the early 2000s and one of the teachers here has a son that served in South Africa is it a small world or what.
We are still camping out in our house with camp chairs no table but its fun kind of like when we were first married. We often take for granted the things that make life easier like potato peelers bowls to mix in, spices, dutch ovens well you get the idea.
Well the things that don't kill you only make you stronger. I should be as strong as Sampson.

It's monday and we have bright skies warm 60 deg temp. we had a good day on Sunday it was good to have more of the young adults come to church and also to family home evening we hold it on sundays as so many are busy with school and work the rest of the week.
Sat Sis Lowery as she is known here and I went on a little walk about the area. we went to one of the mines that have shut down for the present time and isn't to reopen untill 2011 we also went up past a place called Pinos Altos means tall pine there was still snow on the ground kind of like it would be around late march early april up home. It is also the way to some Cliff dwelling the sign said it would take two hours to get there and it closed at four pm we went by the sign at 3:45 so we didn't go to the dwellings.
We are going to have another two Elder Missionaries asigned to SC on Wed we will be greatfull for their company we sure like the other two that are here.
Oh we also saw some javelen (wild Pigs) on our trip Sat.

another sunny day blue skies and 60 deg really nice today.
We had a meeting with out boss today so we are finally on track to get something going.
we are going to have either a lunch and learn or an supper and learn once each week with the conference talks on tv being the learning part with a short discussion after wards.
I think I have the high speed net going again at the Inst. so I will try and post some pictures again as the other connection didn't work so well. so if this works I'll show you the first day and the first snow storm here. The second day was a bigger storm but I didn't get any pictures of it it covered the roads made it very slick till ten or eleven and shut down most of the city.

Tuesday is a snowy day, school was canceled and the adult institute as called off. we had to wait till ten am to travel on the roads cause of ice. We didn't have trouble getting up the hills but some of the other cars and trucks were spinning tires.
The first class of adult institute was called off and we are here checking out what is in the kitchen and the books in the library. We are going to wait and see if any of the kids show up for lunch and we will feed them.
We also have a tv that has the byu channel and we did the work out with them ok not for long with me but Mom did well.

we found a place to live it is a two bedroom house on five acres of wilderness just in side of the city limits wow so we will have a place to put out the feeders in a month. we will be moving in there tomorrow.

sunday went to church at the singles branch. great people there we are looking forward to working with them they are all really nice.

we are off tomorrow to start life outside of the mtc it was hard to say good by to all our new friends today we will really miss them. each one has something that teaches us about the good nature of people.
It is strange how we look at things we received a call from Jer that he had been in a wreck with the van a dodge dooley truck hit him from the back pushing the floor of the van into mount Logan normally we would have thought that this was a bad thing which it was that it occured but normaly he would have been driving his little car who knows what would have happened to him. blessed are we.

we have met a second Elder and Sister Lowry no I didn't misspell they just couldn't find an e for their name their son is still in the mtc and got to meet them as they arrived.
It was hard to say goodbye again this weekend we are glad to be going and doing what the Lord wants us to be doing at this time.

here it is the night of the second day and we are tired it is hard work sitting all day.
we were taught in ways to become better missionaries and ways to teach
we also went to a fire side with Paul Johnson area seventy he taught that there were four things that had to exist to have free agency 1 eternal law 2 opposition to those laws 3 knowledge of it 4 the ability to choose then it gave us the right to make the choice but not the right to choose the consequence of the choice.
